Gainesville, FL – Tom Watson (1-0) made his first start for the Santa Fe Saints count, shutting down Polk State College in a 1-0 Santa Fe victory. Watson, who went 10-0 last season for Chipola College, didn't allow his first hit until the eighth inning and struck out 10 while walking none. Call Graham pitched the ninth inning, striking out the side for his second save of the year.
The only run of the game came in the third when Nick Horvath singled and then moved to third on a Tyler Kinney single. The next at bat the Polk pitcher balked, pushing the run across. That one run was all Watson and Graham would need as they shut down the Eagles to help the Saints move to 4-0.
Through four games, the Saints pitching staff has struck out 42 batters while walking just eight, and carry a 0.86 ERA.
The Saints will look to improve on their perfect 4-0 start on Friday when they travel to St. Petersburg College for a 3:00 PM game and on Saturday when they welcome South Florida State College to Gainesville for a double header starting at 12 noon.
