Gainesville, FL – Tom Watson started off his Santa Fe career on the right foot during the first week of the season, winning both the National Junior College Athletics Association and the Florida College System Activities Association "Pitcher of the Week" awards.
Watson, a sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla., was 1-0 with one save and 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period. On Opening Day, he tossed four scoreless innings in relief to earn the save against Hillsborough. Then, on February 4, he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against Polk State before exiting after eight one-hit innings and striking out ten, earning the victory in the Saints' 1-0 triumph. For the voting period, Watson totaled 12 innings, allowed five hits, no runs, three walks and struck out 15.
He followed this up by tossing seven innings against Tallahassee CC on Wednesday, February 11, striking out nine to earn his second win of the year. He is currently 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 19 innings. He also has a save for good measure.
The Saints are back in action on Friday, February 13 at 3:00 PM against Pasco-Hernando State College.
