Saints Bounce Back for Two Wins at Pensacola State Classic

February 21, 2015

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #3 Santa Fe Saints (13-2) bounced back from yesterday's defeat to claim two victories on Saturday at the Pensacola State College Classic, the first win over the host Pirates 3-2 and the second over Rend Lake College 4-0.

Trent Johnson went the distance in game one, tossing seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits.  Both Pensacola runs came in the bottom of the seventh.

Santa Fe struck first, plating a run in the second on a Chandler Rodriguez RBI double, and two more in the seventh on RBI by Tyler Kinney and Matt Allen.  Johnson (2-0) allowed the two runs in the seventh but shut the door from there to earn the win.

Cole Parks continued his torrid pace to the season, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.  He is now hitting a team best .472 (16-for-37) in 14 appearances.

In game two Austin Goss (2-1) started on the hill and pitched six scoreless innings, striking out five, lowering his ERA to 1.80 in the process.

Santa Fe scored one in the second, two in the sixth, and an insurance run in the seventh.  More than enough for Goss and reliever Call Graham who pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out two.

Chipper Andzel was 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Robbie Hanlon and Jared Shouppe each finished 1-for-3 with a RBI.

The Saints will return home on Monday, February 23 for a 3:00 PM first pitch against Polk State College.
