March 11, 2015

Gainesville, FL – Trent Johnson (4-1) twirled another gem on Wednesday afternoon, this time against Lake Sumter State College, holding the Lakehawks to five hits over eight innings before giving way to Call Graham for the final three outs.  Johnson struck out five and walked one, needing just 87 pitches to earn his fourth win of the season.

Jared Shouppe paced the offense, reaching base four times, twice on singles, once on an error, and the other on a hit by pitch.  He finished the game 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

The Saints took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third inning, but LSSC answered with a pair in the fourth to tie the score at 2-2.

SF catcher Matt Allen broke the tie with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Shouppe, and the Saints put up an insurance run via a pinch hit, RBI single by Hugo Valdes.

Lake Sumter plated one run in the top of the ninth, but Call Graham shut the door, picking up his team leading fourth save of the season in the process.

The win moves the NJCAA #10 Saints to 17-5 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-Florida Conference.  The Lakehawks drop to 13-13 and 0-4 in MFC play.

Matt Allen finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI, and a sacrifice bunt, Chipper Andzel was 2-for-3, and Nick Horvath 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Saints will travel to Leesburg for the final game of their three game series with Lake Sumter.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
