Saints Sweep South Georgia, 2-1 and 6-5; Stay Undefeated
January 30, 2016
Gainesville, FL – David Lee and Bailey Metcalf pitched the Saints (3-0) to a game one victory over South Georgia State College (0-2) on Saturday in Douglas, GA, and the SF bats went to work in the second half of the double header to earn the Saints a 6-5 win.
Lee (1-0) tossed the first four innings of game one, holding the Hawks scoreless, and Bailey Metcalf allowed just one run on one hit through the final three innings to earn the save.
Robbie Hanlon provided the Saints with all the offense they would need, singling in two runs in the first inning for their only runs of the game.  SGSC cut the margin in half with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Metcalf closed out the win with no more damage done.
The Saints jumped out early in game two, plating a run in the first, and another in the second for an early 2-0 lead.  The Hawks scored once in the second to make it a one run game, but SF answered with four runs in the third, sparked by a Tyler Kinney RBI double.
Kevin Fuentes (1-0) picked up the win with 2.2 innings in relief of starter Kyle Morton, and Call Graham got the save with a perfect seventh inning.
"Lee and Metcalf pitched a very good game in the first one," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs.  "Our hitters responded with more offense in the second game, something we ended up needing.  Fuentes and Graham were outstanding the last four innings."
The Saints will travel to Hillsborough on Wednesday, February 3 for a 3:00 PM game against the Hawks.
"It's great to be 3-0, but we need to continue getting better as we play through non-conference and prepare for the rigors of Mid-Florida Conference play," said Wiggs.
