Baseball Opens MFC Play March 2 at Home Against CF

March 1, 2016

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints finished the non-conference portion of their schedule on a 10 game winning streak, an 18-3 record, a #3 FCSAA ranking, and a #21 ranking in the www.perfectgame.org national poll.  They will put all of that away when they start Mid-Florida Conference play on Wednesday, March 2 at home against a talented College of Central Florida (15-6) team at 3:00 PM.  Coach Johnny Wiggs and the players know this is the portion of the season where FCSAA Tournament berths are decided, and every team is 0-0 in conference play.

"The guys played real well in non-conference," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs.  "We found different ways to win and so many different guys contributed.  When we struggled in one area, different guys would pick us up.  We are looking forward to jumping into conference play.  CF will be a tough first series.  They finished non-conference on a very high note and Coach Marty Smith and his staff do a great job getting their guys ready to play."

The Saints finished the first half of the season sixth in the FCSAA in team ERA at 3.48 and had a .289 team batting average, but hit over .300 during their 10 game winning streak.

Trent Johnson (2-1, 2.20 ERA) will take the hill on Wednesday, followed by David Lee (3-0, 2.21 ERA) on Friday in Ocala, and Kyle Morton (2-1, 2.91 ERA) in Gainesville on Saturday.

Fans can watch both games in Gainesville on the Saints Sports Network.
