Chipola Defeats SF 6-2, Saints Play in Title Game on Saturday

May 19, 2016

Box Score

Lakeland, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (41-8) ran into a three homerun game from Chipola shortstop Jose Caballero on Thursday evening, falling to the Indians 6-2 at the FCSAA Tournament.  The game was not a must win for SF and they will move on to the championship game on Saturday at 10:00 AM against either Chipola or Gulf Coast by virtue of being in the winner's bracket the longest.

Thursday's game was a rematch of Wednesday's game that Santa Fe pulled out 10-9 thanks to a walk off homerun from Hugo Valdes.  Today was Chipola's day as they hit four homeruns to stay alive in the tournament.

SF trailed 5-0 before getting on the board in the eighth, but stranded 13 runners, including two in that eighth inning, struggling to come up with the clutch hits.

The Saints may get another shot at the Indians should they defeat Gulf Coast on Friday in the 10:00 AM game.  Either way, the winner will get the Saints on Saturday with a trip to Grand Junction, Colorado and the JUCO World Series on the line.
