Bacon, Morton Dominate in 4-2 Win Over Polk

February 20, 2017

Gainesville, FL – Kyle Morton and Troy Bacon were nearly unhittable on Monday afternoon against Polk State, helping the Saints to a 4-2 victory over the Eagles, avenging a loss from earlier in the season.

Morton started and went six innings, allowing three hits, walking four, and struck out five.  Troy Bacon earned the win with three perfect innings, striking out seven.  So far this season Bacon is 3-0 with six saves in nine appearances.  He struck out 24 in 13.1 innings, allowed one hit, and no runs.

"I was real pleased with our pitching today," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs.  "I didn't think Morton had his best stuff but he really competed and made some big pitches when he needed to.  Bacon has been outstanding all year, and he was again today."

Alex Goebel came up with the big hit in the eighth, plating two on a double to the gap.  Brandon Hernandez gave SF an insurance run with a sac fly later in the inning.

Bacon finished the game off with a perfect ninth.

Dillon Reed was the lone Saint with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Goebel, Stephen Smith, and Leo Rodriguez had one hit each.

The win moves the Saints to 13-6 on the season.  They will be back at home on Wednesday, February 22 at 3:00 PM against Tallahassee CC.
