Saints Rebound for 6-1 Win Over Daytona

The Santa Fe Saints rebounded from losing their first two Mid-Florida Conference games to take a 6-1 win over Daytona State College Wednesday afternoon in Daytona.

Michael Paul (4-0) pitched into the sixth inning allowing just one run while scattering six hits and Emanuel Fernandez and Tyler Jones closed things out to get the win.

"Our pitchers got big outs when we needed them to," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs. "At the plate we were able to take advantage of some walks and hit batters and got hits at the right times."

The Saints broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fourth inning with all three runs scoring without recording a hit.

Brock Edge started the rally by reaching on an error and Kyler Marquis and Cade Westbrook followed by drawing walks to load the bases. Jonathan Logsdon was then hit by a pitch to score Edge and Caleb Stafford followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 SF. Parker Biederer reached on a fielder's choice later in the inning to score Westbrook and make it a 4-1 lead.

Jarrod Cande and Garrett Mathes had two hits apiece for the Saints with Mathes driving in two runs.

SF (18-8, 1-2 MFC) will host Kalamazoo Valley Community College in a non-conference game on Friday beginning at 3 p.m.
