The Santa Fe Saints erupted for five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to erase a 1-0 deficit and lead to a 6-3 win over TNXL Baseball Academy.
Tyler Zayas got the rally started with a lead-off double and moved to third on a single by Garrett Mathes. One out later Cade Westbrook drove home both with a triple to left-center. Brock Edge them followed with a run scoring double and advanced to third on a single by Kyler Marquis. A single by Jonathan Logsdon made it 4-1 and Cale Jones finished off the inning with an RBI single to score Marquis.
"TNXL gave us a big test today," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs. "Other than our big inning they pitched very well. We had some good at bats and got some big hits in the sixth."
Anthony Arguelles (3-0) earned the win for the Saints will Zayas and Mathes recorded two hits apiece for SF. Mathes hit his third homerun of the year with the bases empty in the seventh.
"Other than two pitches that were hit for home runs we pitched really well today," said Wiggs. "We are looking forward to back to conference play next Wednesday.
The Saints (20-8, 1-2 MFC) will travel to Ocala on Wednesday to take on the College of Central Florida in a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
