After rallying back from 7-1 deficit to tie the score at 7-7 in the ninth, the Saints fell to Chipola College 8-7 in the second round of the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA State Tournament Saturday night in Lakeland.
Kyler Marquis delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single to drive in two and tie the score in the top of the ninth, but the Saints left the go ahead runs on base and the Indians pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the frame.
Marquis was three-for-four on the night with three runs batted inn while Brock Edge had a pair of hits for the Saints.
Saints starter Anthony Arguelles ran into trouble early in the game as the Indians scored four in the first and three more in the third. Brooks Walton pitched six strong innings in relief to give the Saints a chance to come from behind, but Emanuel Fernandez was unable to keep the Indians off the board in the ninth.
Santa Fe (38-16) will now face State College of Florida at 4 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game.
