Nick Herndon was a perfect 4-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with two doubles, two singles and three runs scored as the Santa Fe Saints improved to 3-2 with a 9-2 win over South Georgia State College Saturday afternoon.

Herndon, a freshman outfielder out of Thomasville, Ga., has reached base in each of his last nine at bats with eight hits and has hit safely in all four games he has played in this year.

"We really played well today. Our hitters swung the bats well today and executed perfectly when we needed to," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs. "Brooks Walton set the tone on the mound by pounding the zone for six innings."

Leading 3-1, the Saints doubled up their run total with a three-run fifth inning. Luke Marquis got things started with a double and scored when Herndon's third hit of the day was misplayed in left field. Jonathan Logsdon was then hit by a pitch and Luis Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Chase Frady followed with a two-run single to expand the Saints lead to 6-1.

Meanwhile Saints starter Brooks Walton (1-0) was shutting down the Hawks. The sophomore out of Buchholz High School scattered six hits over six innings and allowed one earned run. Brad Lord and Lance Bolton each pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Matt Jolley and Anthony Sterchele finished up with a scoreless ninth.

"This team is getting better every time out and I'm looking forward watching them grow and progress," said Wiggs

The Saints will take a day off before hosting St. Petersburg College at 3 pm Monday.
