Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints made a season high 18 three pointers on Monday night against Pasco-Hernando in just 27 attempts, two shy of the all-time school record for makes.
David-Lee Jones was the catalyst offensively, making six of the threes, scoring a game high 26 points to go with 10 assists and five rebounds. Nick Peacock was also on fire from behind the three point line, connecting on 6-of-10 for 22 points.
"I was very pleased with how well we shot the basketball," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We turned it over a few too many times in the first half and allowed them to stay in the game."
Santa Fe committed 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, seeing a 12 point lead shrink to five at the break 48-43.
In the second half Santa Fe took better care of the ball and turned to a zone defense to slow down the ultra-athletic, guard heavy Conquistadors.
"I thought our zone, although we don't run it much, was effective for us tonight," said Mowry. "Besides the better defense our bench played a big part for us in the second half."
The Saints (15-10) outscored PHSC 52-37 in the second half to secure the victory.
Next up for SF is a game against Victory Rock Prep at home on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
