Gainesville, FL – St. Petersburg College got the better of Santa Fe on Tuesday night in Clearwater, defeating the Saints in two closely contested games, 2-0 and 7-6. The losses drop SF to 4-4 on the season.
Autumn Green was the tough luck loser in game one, surrendering just four hits and two unearned runs in defeat. The Santa Fe offense outhit the Titans eight to four, but couldn't come up with the big hit with runners in scoring position. Evelyn Arguelles led Santa Fe with three hits and Ki Vega had two.
The Santa Fe bats perked up in game two, but St. Pete was also up to the task offensively. SF scored first, plating a run in the third by way of bases loaded hit by pitch. The Titans answered with fiour runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 4-1. SPC added a run in the fourth, but the Saints fired back, scoring three in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4. Two of the runs came on a Titans error, and the other on a Gina Eller RBI single.
St. Pete scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to make it a 7-4 game heading into the final inning. The Saints refused to go quietly, scoring two runs before SPC got out of a two runners on jam to end the game.
The Saints next games will be at home on Saturday, February 13 at 1:00 and 3:00 PM against the State College of Florida.
