Gainesville, FL – Things didn't go the way of the Saints in the first half of a double header against St. John's River State College, but Santa Fe bounced back in the second game for an 11-9 victory to earn a two game split.
The Vikings took control in game one, and four SF errors led to an 8-0 SJRSC victory.
Game two was a different story. Despite falling behind 3-1 after the first inning, SF (18-20, 5-7 MFC) piled up eight runs on six hits in the fifth inning to grab an 8-3 lead. Chelsea Malcolm cleared the bases with a RBI double and Gina Eller singled home two for the big blows in the frame.
St. John's came back with three in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 9-7 game, and each team scored two runs in the sixth for the 11-9 final. Sarah Ortiz doubled in one run, and Eller picked up her third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly.
The Saints had 15 hits in the second game, including four for Ki Vega, three for Sarah Ortiz, and two for Keysha Gordon. Nine players had at least one hit.
The Saints will be off until next Tuesday when they will host the #1 team in the nation, the College of Central Florida at 2:30 and 4:30 PM.
