Saints Win One, Tie Other Against Tallahassee CC

March 1, 2018

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints trailed 5-1 late in the first game of a double header against Tallahassee Community College, but rallied for another come from behind win, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning to complete the comeback.

Haissette Escudero led the way for the Saints (17-8-2), homering and also knocked in the tying run in the sixth.  She capped her solid offensive game by scoring the winning run on a bases loaded walk.

Sophia Negron put the first run on the board for SF in the second but the Eagles bounced back with four runs in the third to go ahead 5-1.

Escudero smacked a two run homer in the third to trim the deficit to 5-3 and Bailee Moill made it a one run game with a homerun in the fourth.

Two innings later three straight hits, with the third coming from Escudero, tied the game at 5-5.  Four batters later, with two outs, TCC walked in what would be the eventual game winning run.

Jamie Adams (7-1) shut down the Eagles in the sixth and earned the win with 4.2 innings in relief.

Escudero was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a homerun, and three RBI.  Bailee Moll had two hits, including a homerun and a double, and Emily Yakel was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Santa Fe fell behind again in game two, but again found a way to come up with runs in the late innings.  Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Saints loaded the bases and then drew back to back walks to tie the game 4-4.  Giulia Fiorentini gave SF an insurance run with a one out RBI single to cap the scoring in the inning.

Needing two runs, TCC came up with what they needed, knocking a two out, bases loaded single to tie the game.

Santa Fe came up empty in the bottom of the sixth and the umpires called the game due to darkness.

Fiorentini was 2-for-2 in the game with two RBI, Adriana Garip also finished 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, and Alison Sievers was 1-for-1.

The Saints will be back in action tomorrow, Friday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. in double header action against Palm Beach State College.
