The Santa Fe Saints were held hitless into the final inning and saw their season come to an end in 4-0 loss to Florida State College/Jacksonville in the first round of the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Caitlyn Berry (13-12) kept the Saints hitless until the top of the seventh and finished up with a 2-hit shutout.
Saints starter Donnie Gobourne matched Berry hitter for hitter until the fourth inning when she struggled to find the strike zone, walking four batters, leading to four Blue Wave runs. FSC/J managed just three hits in the game with the Saints getting only a pair of singles in the seventh.
The Saints finished their first season under Head Coach Lindsay Fico with an overall record of 23-28 and finished fourth in the MFC.
"This year was full of ups and downs," said Fico. "This team handled all of the new routines, packed schedules and expectations we threw at them. They were always respectful, grateful and willing to work for everything they earned."
The Saints expect to return 10 players from this year's roster and Fico said the foundation is set for good things to happen in the future. "I look forward to building on the momentum this team provided for many seasons to come."
