Saints Host Martinique on November 3 to Open Season

Gainesville, FL – The defending Mid-Florida Conference champion Santa Fe Saints will kick off their 2017-18 campaign with a new look on Friday, November 3 when they host the Martinique National Team at 8:00 p.m.  Just two players return from last year's team (Gryselle Sepulveda and Jaela Green) and 10 newcomers join them.

"We graduated over 90% of our minutes played and over 90% of our scoring, rebounds and assists," said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins.  "We have pretty much a brand new group so we will see how they react early on."

Two NCAA Division I transfers will help take on leadership roles for Coach Stebbins and the Saints.  Julie Fournier is a former walk on at Florida Atlantic University, and Ivana Boyd transferred in from Lamar University.

Eight freshman round out a team Coach Stebbins believes has a chance to compete and give teams problems at both ends of the floor.

"We have the personnel to create mismatches and to play many different styles," said Stebbins.  "We have players that can score the basketball in a number of different ways."

Following their season opener against Martinique, Santa Fe will host East Georgia State College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
