The Santa Fe Saints used a suffocating defense to hold Daytona State in check, on the way to a 63-50 Mid-Florida Conference win on the road Saturday afternoon.
"I am very proud of our defensive effort today," said SF Head Coach Chanda Stebbins. "I was critical of the team for not showing solid body language after getting stops against FSCJ and I feel like we grew in that area today."
The Saints held a slim 32-30 lead at halftime, but limited the Falcons to just eight third-quarter points on three of 14 from the field to take a double-digit lead into the final stanza. "It's good to see our "bigs" get stops inside and make it difficult for them the score in ways they are comfortable," said Stebbins. "They hurt us in close the last time we played and we were able to adjust."
SF (14-7, 4-1 MFC) moves into sole possession of first place in the MFC and has won four straight, three of which are conference wins.
The next game for the Saints is Saturday February 2 when the College of Central Florida comes to Gainesville for the 2 pm tip off.
