As the Saints Women's Basketball team prepares for their own FCSAA/NJCAA District VIII Championships in Ocala next week, a future Saint was securing her team's FHSAA Class 1A state title. Taniah Bowers of Trenton High School led her Trenton Tigers to the 1A state title Tuesday, February 26 with a win over Holmes County. Bowers is known for her play making ability and has several double doubles this season as well as a triple double.
"We are excited to see Taniah and the Tigers hard work all pay off. I think our fans will love watching Taniah's speed and quickness on the floor," said Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins. Bowers averaged 14.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 6.8 steals. "Taniah is a great athlete that can impact the game in many areas, not mention the person and student she is really fits the mold of players we like to bring to our program," stated Stebbins.
Bowers has received the Meldon Scholar Athlete of the week award by TV20 and will graduate from Trenton this spring and enroll at Santa Fe this summer. Bowers will join current Santa Fe Saints Danasia Bogle (Wildwood H.S. – FHSAA Class 1A) and Chardell Jones (Jones H.S. – FHSAA Class 5A) who also earned state titles while competing in the FHSAA tournament during their high school years.
