Saints Fall to Central Florida in Five Sets After Fighting Back from 2-0 Deficit

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA #4/NJCAA #16 Santa Fe Saints started slowly, but never quit on Tuesday evening, fighting back from a 2-0 hole to force a fifth set before falling to the #2/#8 College of Central Florida Patriots 3-2.

Central Florida (17-5, 3-1 MFC) controlled the early portion of the match, winning the first set 25-11 thanks in part to a sparkling .412 hitting percentage, 16 kills, and just two errors.  The Patriots kept their momentum going in set two, defeating SF 25-17 to go ahead 2-0.

The Saints (20-4, 3-2 MFC) refused to roll over and picked themselves up in the third set, fighting back from numerous deficits to squeak out a 25-23 win.  The third set was Santa Fe's best hitting set of the match.  The picked up 11 kills, with just one error, and hit .370.

With the Patriots on their heels, SF kept the pressure on and piled up 16 kills in the fourth set in route to a 25-21 victory, knotting the match up at 2-2.

Santa Fe's run came to an end in the fifth set as the Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead and finished the match off with a 15-10 win.

Ruth Harrington and Kaylin Powell each led Santa Fe with 11 kills, and Harrington added 14 digs for a double double.  Farah Rajaee piled up 45 assists, and Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch had 25 digs.  Central Florida's Julymar Otero led all players with 27 kills. 

The Saints will have a chance to rebound on Thursday when they travel to St. John's River State College for a Mid-Florida Conference matchup starting at 7:00 PM.  The next home match for SF is on Saturday at 2:00 Pm against Trinity College of Florida.  That match can be seen live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
