Gainesville, FL – The Central Florida Patriots overcame a 24-21 deficit in the first set against Santa Fe on Thursday evening, and used that momentum to defeat the Saints in four sets, claiming the outright Mid-Florida Conference title in the process.
Santa Fe (19-6, 7-3 MFC) seemed to be in control in the first set, getting one point away from victory, but the Patriots scored the final five points of the set to take the 1-0 lead. The Saints bounced back in the second set, winning 25-22 to even the match up at 1-1.
CF took control of the third set and pulled away for a 25-16 win. In the fourth set it was back and forth until a late run by the Patriots led to a 25-22 win, sealing the set and the MFC title.
Nadine Williams led SF with 13 kills, and chipped in 14 digs for a double double. Farah Rajaee led the Saints in both assists (37) and digs (24). Sheyanne Sullivan added 12 kills and Kaylin Powell had seven blocks.
The Saints will wrap up the regular season on the road on Wednesday in Babson Park against Webber International University at 7:00 PM, and on October 30 against Miami Dade College at 12 noon.
Santa Fe has qualified for the FCSAA State Tournament and will face off against a familiar foe when they meet the College of Central Florida on November 6 at 10:00 AM in Gulf Breeze, FL.
