The Santa Fe College volleyball team completed an undefeated weekend and is now 4-0 on the young season with a 15-25, 25-22, 25-21, 26-24 win over Daytona State Saturday evening to complete a 3-0 weekend at the Campus USA/Santa Fe College Classic.
In the opening match of the day, the Saints won a wild five set win over Palm Beach State. After dropping the first two sets 30-32, 22-25 before roaring back with 25-14, 25-13, 15-8 wins to take the match.
Sophomore outside hitter Leah Wicox led all Saints with 20 kills and hit at a .261 clip. Kissimmee native, Aspen Dangren added 15, while Sophomore middle blocker Jocelyn Garcia had 8 kills and hit .412.
"This win is a credit to everyone on the team. The bench came in and played great in set two, and even though we didn't win that set, I felt like they really set the tone for the rest of the match," said Head Coach Nick Cheronis. I love how this group never gives up."
The tournament's closing match may have been one of the best in the two days of state college volleyball as the Saints took down Daytona State 3-1.
Brooke Ruud lead all attackers with 17 kills and a .567 hitting percentage. "
Brooke made an All-American statement with her performance tonight," said Head Coach Nick Cheronis. "Daytona State really had no answer for her."
Dangren had 12 kills while Ocala, Florida product Wilcox added 10 more. Hannah Rodriguez had 21 digs to add to the Saints defensive effort that included 13 total blocks.
