Saints Earn Split at Tri-Match

Saints' Leah Wilcox sends the volleyball over the net.

Coming off their recent number nine national ranking the Santa Fe Saints Volleyball team suffered their first setback of the season, falling to St. Petersburg College 3-0 at a tri-match held in Bradenton Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Titans won by scores of 25-23, 25-12, 25-17 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Grace Daugherty led the Saints with six kills and posted a .333 hitting percentage.

In their second match of the day the Saints disposed of the State College of Florida in three, 25-20, 25-14, 25-17. Brooke Ruud led the Saints with seven kills and six blocks finishing with a .556 hitting percentage.

The first match was a wakeup call for us," said Head Coach Nick Cheronis. "We now know how far we are from our season's goals. However, I credit the team for shaking that one off and playing great in the second match."

The Saints (11-1) will travel to Leesburg next Saturday for another tri-match, playing Lake Sumter State College at 10:00 AM and Indian River State College at 12 noon.
