The Saints volleyball team found their groove after a first set loss to claim the next three sets for a win against State College of Florida, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 on Friday, August 23.
Making her debut, newcomer Emily Register contributed in big ways. "Emily was huge for us tonight," stated Saints head coach Nick Cheronis. He added, "she came off the bench and just dominated the middle play."
By the end of the match, Register had seven kills and four big blocks. Sheffield dazzled with 20 kills on a .432 hitting percentage.
Defending their home court, the Saints went on a 6-0 run to close out the match. Cheronis stated, "It was a physical match for us and very little turnaround time to play Palm Beach and Daytona State, but this will make us better."
The Saints (2-0) will compete on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. against Palm Beach State College and at 4:30 p.m. against Daytona State College as the Santa Fe/Campus USA tournament continues.
