This week's Alumni Spotlight is Brad Lord, who played for the Saints during the 2020 season. Lord was a big part of the Saints roster, appearing in 7 games while starting three of them before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Lord pitched 18 total innings and held a 3.44 ERA and 1.53 WHIP with 15 strikeouts. His best appearances came out of the bullpen, combining for six strikeouts and two hits in four innings of work over a three-game stretch.
After Santa Fe, Lord signed to play at the University of South Florida, where he spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Bulls. Lord made 31 appearances total with South Florida, pitching 124 innings and had accumulated 123 strikeouts. Lord was additionally selected to the 2021 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team. Lord was selected in the 18th round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals.
Lord spent 2023 and 2024 moving up in the ranks of the Nationals minor league system, and eventually made his MLB Debut with the Nationals on March, 30th 2025. Lord has since been a consistent arm for Washington, taking on the roles of a starter and mid-inning reliever this season.
Lord uses his four-pitch mix to keep hitters off-balance and currently has a 3.80 ERA in 100.2 innings and has only walked 33 batters. The Nationals are 53-80 this season and Lord is next slated to start at home vs the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, August 31st at 1:35pm EST.
