Alumni Spotlight: Corey Staples
This week's Alumni Spotlight is Corey Staples, who played Women's Basketball from 2015-2017
Gainesville, FL
Staples joined the Saints in 2015 and spent two seasons wearing 'Santa Fe' across her chest. Even though she was an out of state player coming from Buford, Georgia, Staples has plenty of connections to Gainesville through her family. She has had multiple family members become letterwinners for the Florida Gators over multiple sports, so Gainesville felt close to home.
Staples helped the Saints to a combined 34-25 record in her two years, which included becoming a Mid-Florida Conference Runner-Up (15/16) and Mid-Florida Conference Champion (16/17). Staples tallied 481 points at Santa Fe for her career while shooting above 35%. She was also named Mid-Florida Second Team All-Conference her sophomore year.
After Santa Fe, Staples decided to turn down scholarship offers from schools around the country and enroll at the University of Florida, fulfilling her dreams of someday becoming a Gator. Staples then joined the Women's Basketball team, where she medically redshirted for 2017-18 and logged 23 games with two starts in 2018-19.
Staples then left UF as a graduate transfer to join Florida A&M University, spending her final year of college eligibility with the Rattlers. Staples played in 27 games for FAMU, making a start in 23 of them. She averaged 5.9 points and 2.5 rebounds with FAMU.
Now, Staples is a Co-Founder and COO of Switch, an audio-based speed dating platform that prioritizes real conversations first. She is also a sales specialist and Inside Sales Representative for InComm Payments, a technology company that transforms the global commerce experience.
