This week's Alumni Spotlight is Mike Holloway, who was on the Santa Fe Track Team in 1978-1979.
Holloway signed with Santa Fe upon his high school graduation, running for Santa Fe's head Coach Brooks Johnson, who also served as an assistant coach for the University of Florida's Track and Field Team.
Holloway finished as NJCAA Runner up in the 60 yard hurdles and came back to complete his AA at Santa Fe in 1993. He then continued at the University of Florida where he received his Bachelors degree.
Holloway began his coaching career in Gainesville, assisting with the Buchholtz 4x100 relay team at first while he worked his way up to eventually be named head coach for track and field and cross country in the beginning months of 1985.
He then joined the women's side at UF as a volunteer coach, assisting with the 4x800b relay team, eventually helping them break a world record. Buchholtz captured their first state title in 1989, and Holloway helped the Bobcats achieve eight state titles in ten seasons, sweeping the boys and girls' 5A titles in 1995.
Holloway made the transition to collegiate coaching when he took assistant job for the men's side at UF and was later named head coach of the men's side in 2003. In 2007, Holloway was named the first head coach of the combined men's and women's track and field program. Since then, he is a 14x NCAA Division 1 National Champion, 17x SEC Champion, 94 Men's and Women's National Championship Titles, 226 Men's and Women's SEC Event Champions, has coached 61 of 76 UF School Record Holders, and coached 11 Olympic Medals. Holloway still serves as the head coach.
"Mouse" was inducted into the Santa Fe Athletics Hall of Fame as an individual in 2014, as well as alongside members of the 1979 Santa Fe Track and Field team in the Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
