Bio
Lindsay Fico completed her third year as Head Coach at Santa Fe College in 2021, and has already helped to develop a culture of success both on and off the field.
2021
SF concluded the 2021 season with a record of 31-16, and finished in second during the Mid-Florida Conference regular season with a mark of 14-7. The Saints were a remarkable 20-1 on their home field, which included a Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship on April 22 with a sweep of Daytona State.
The Saints berth into the FCSAA State Tournament represented the program's 16th all-time, first since the 2017 season, and first under the guidance of Fico.
In the shortened 2020 season, the Saints finished 16-14 overall, increased their winning percentage to .533 and remained in the NJCAA Region 8 Top 10 throughout the entire season. Fico’s team improved in every offensive category from the previous year. In 30 games, they scored 159 runs, hit 18 HRs, batted .274 with an OBP of .389 and carried an impressive .965 fielding percentage.
The Saints were set to make a run in the Mid-Florida conference behind sophomore pitcher, Donnie Gobourne, and sophomore offensive leader, Karina Ortiz-Munoz. Gobourne received a scholarship from Florida Atlantic University to continue her playing career and Ortiz-Munoz joined Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. All five sophomores graduated with their AA degree before departing SF. The 2019-20 team GPA improved yet again to a 3.39. The Saints had 13 Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athletes, 7 NJCAA All-Academic Honors and 10 athletes named to the FCSAA All-Academic Team.
2019
In Fico's first season, the Saints finished the season with a 23-28 overall record. Santa Fe improved their position in the conference, almost doubling their conference wins to 11. The Saints fell to FSCJ in post season play landing them in 4th place in a very competitive Mid-Florida Conference. Fico also helped lead her team in the classroom. The 2019 team GPA improved to a 3.0 and all 8 sophomores graduated with their AA degree. The Saints had 10 Mid-Florida Scholar Athletes, 8 NJCAA All-Academic Honors, and 10 athletes named to the FCSAA All-Academic Team.
Fico spent most of her first season working diligently to change the culture of the Saints softball program. Throughout both her coaching career and playing days at the University of Florida, Fico has always prided herself in outworking her opponents both on and off the field. She hopes to continuously improve Santa Fe’s program, putting it back on the map within both the conference and throughout the state.
Additional Coaching Experience
First and foremost, Fico is a teacher of the game. She started giving individual lessons upon graduating from UF in 2006, which was the catalyst that led to coaching. Along with giving individual lessons for the last 13 years, Fico has spearheaded many softball clinics and camps over the years within the greater Gainesville area. She coached a Santa Fe Inferno travel team for 6 years before being hired at Santa Fe. During her time as head coach, Fico helped propel her team to be one of the best in the state. They competed at the highest level and she helped many players reach their goal of playing college softball through the relationships she has built within the coaching community. Her first head coaching experience came in 2014 with a Santa Fe All-Star team hoping to make a run in the Babe Ruth World Series. She started with the team as a hitting coach, but that quickly progressed, and they finished 3rd amongst more than 30 teams across the nation.
Playing Career
As a player at the University of Florida, Fico (Lindsay Norfleet) played in 206 games, was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association scholar-athlete from 2003-2006, named SEC Freshman Honor Roll in 2003 and SEC Honor Roll in 2004. She was a speedy player who served primarily as an infielder, splitting time between 2nd and 3rd base as a sophomore, middle infield and some outfield as a junior, and started at 2nd base her senior year under Coach Tim Walton. Her versatility and willingness to do whatever was needed for the team also made her a favorite among her teammates. She was elected co-captain of the team in 2006.
Education & Family
She graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 with her Bachelor of Science in Public Relations.
Upon graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Damon Fico, in June of 2007 while he was serving in the United States Navy. They had their son, Damon “DC” Fico Jr. in February of 2015 and now live in Newberry, Fla.
