Garrett Mathes connected for his second double of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and pinch runner Isaiah Perry scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Donovan Benoit to earn the Saints a 3-2 win over Tallahassee CC Monday afternoon in Gainesville.

The Saints scored first when Parker Biederer walked to start the first inning and moved to third on Mathes' first double of the game. A sacrifice fly by Jonathan Logsdon put the Saints up 1-0.

The Saints took advantage of some TCC miscues in the third when Jonathan Logsdon led off with a single, moved to second on an error, took third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 SF.

The Eagles (3-3) tied the score with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth when Saints reliever Emanuel Fernandez gave up a couple of singles and Mathes followed him to the mound and allowed a walk and a single to knot the score.

Michael Paul started on the mound for the Saints and pitched five innings of scoreless baseball, scattering six hits and striking out two before giving way to Fernandez to start the sixth. Mathes (1-0) is credited with the win while Jarrod Cande pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the year.  "Pitching really kept us in the game," said SF Head Coach Johnny Wiggs. "We scored a couple runs early and had many chances to extend the lead, but didn't execute."

The Saints (8-1) have a team earned run average of just 1.62 and had thrown 23 consecutive scoreless innings before giving up two in the eighth, but Coach Wiggs would like to see the bats heat up.

"We just have to be better offensively," said Wiggs. "Mathes did a good job today and Benoit got the job done in the eighth, but we missed on some other opportunities."

SF will host Hillsborough CC on Wednesday for a 3 pm game time. The Saints defeated the Hawks 13-2 in the season opener for both teams on January 25 in Tampa.
