Saints Beat DSC, 4-1
Devin Hemenway pitched a complete game four-hitter and Jonathan Logsdon was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate as the Saints evened up their Mid-Florida Conference record at 1-1 with a 4-1 win at Daytona Wednesday afternoon.
Hemenway (3-1) walked one and struck out 11, lowering his earned run average to 1.98.
"Hemenway was really good today," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs. "He threw everything for strikes. He was just one bloop double away from a shutout."
The Saints broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the seventh, all crossing the plate after two were out.
Logsdon started the rally with a single and moved up to second on a balk. Luis Rodriguez then singled in Logsdon and moved to second on a walk to Coy Phillips. JC Lovelace followed with a two-run double putting the Saints up 3-0.
"It was great to see JC have some good swings," said Wiggs. "That was a huge two-out, two-run double in the seventh."
The Falcons (10-7, 1-1 MFC) scored their only run in the eighth but the Saints answered with an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Logsdon was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Phillips.
Logsdon, a sophomore out of Leesburg, GA, raised his averaged to .358, third on the team while his two runs scored give him a team best 23.
"Logsdon was locked in from the start. He plays a big role in what we have to get done at the plate," said Wiggs.
The Saints (18-5, 1-1 MFC) will host the Falcons for the third game of the series on Friday at 2 pm.
