Adams Tabbed the NJCAA Division I Pitcher of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Robb Adams of No. 16 Santa Fe College Baseball has been awarded NJCAA Division I Pitcher of the Week honors, after tossing a historic no-hitter in the FCSAA State Tournament on Sunday, May 9.
Adams' no-no is believed to be the first-ever in FCSAA State Tournament history, and it couldnt have come at a better time for the Saints as they beat Northwest Florida 5-0 for the right to play Miami Dade for the title.
Although the Saints eventually fell by a 10-5 score to Miami Dade in the Championship Game, the outing from Adams in the game prior was one for the ages. The left hander's no-hitter represented his second complete game shutout of the season, and his final line included just one walk, one Saints' error, and two hit batsmen. He struck out seven and faced just three more batters over the minimum.
The only thing keeping Adams from being perfect through the first seven innings was an error and hit-by-pitch, as he kept Northwest Florida off balance all game long with a mix of pitches. Luis Rodriguez made the defensive play of the game with a leaping snag at third base in the fifth inning to keep the no-hitter alive.
The postgame reaction from Adams and Head Coach Johnny Wiggs are included below.
