Baseball's Garfield Johns Commits to the South Alabama Jaguars
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Left-handed pitcher Garfield Johns of Santa Fe College Baseball has made a commitment to attend the University of South Alabama to play for the Jaguars.
Johns, a native of Starke, Fla. who attended Keystone Heights High School, is in the midst of his second season with the Saints. In 2021, Johns pitched in 13 games and logged 19 innings, tossing 18 strikeouts while posting an ERA of 1.89.
Johns had an electric start to begin the 2022 season, keeping Northwest Florida State College scoreless in six innings of work while allowing just one hit and striking out a career-high 12 batters.
South Alabama Baseball is coached by Mark Calvi, and the team went 36-22 in the 2021 season and found success at the NCAA Gainesville Regional before falling to USF. The team was recently picked to the win the Sunbelt Conference in 2022.
Johns and the Saints will next take the field at home on Friday, Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m. against St. Petersburg College.
