AVON PARK, Fla. – For the second time this season, South Florida State College and No. 16 Santa Fe College Baseball split a doubleheader.
On Saturday, the Saints won Game 1 by a 3-2 score, then fell to the Panthers 6-3 in Game 2.
Game 1 – SF 3, SFSC 2
South Florida State College led 2-0 after the game's first two complete innings, after single runs in the first and second off starter Garfield Johns.
Johns settled in nicely, however, and the Saints plated three runs in the fifth to take a lead.
The first two batters reached safely, then Jevin Relaford doubled to score the first run. A balk tied the game up at 2-2, right before Dylan Mock had a single to bring in Relaford and make it a 3-2 game.
Johns and the defense did the rest in the final two innings, holding on for the 3-2 victory.
Key Statistics
Johns improved to 2-1, throwing a complete game. He allowed just five hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out three.
The Saints had ten hits as a team. Relaford continued to rake, going 3-of-4 from the leadoff spot with a double and RBI. Mock was 2-of-4 with a double and RBI, while Santiago Garavito and Jacob Guthrie had extra base hits. Guthrie was 2-of-3, with both hits being doubles.
Game 2 – SFSC 6, SF 3
The Saints went ahead 1-0 in the second on a sacrifice fly from JP Herrholz, but the Panthers tied it up at 1-1 in their next at-bats.
SFSC got to starter Lance Bolton in the third inning, plating three runs on three hits and two walks.
The hosts' lead had extended to 6-1 after five innings, and although the Saints brought two home in the seventh on a double from Relaford, the comeback wasn't meant to be.

SF mustered just five hits in this one. Zeth Rodriguez had two singles, while Relaford and Bret Madren each had doubles.
Bolton was charged with the loss. After 2.2 innings and four earned runs, Bolton gave way to Jalen Hudson. Hudson threw 2.1 innings and conceded two earned runs with one walk and two K's. Jake Blair had the final inning out of the bullpen, pitching a 1-2-3 frame.
