Gainesville, FL
Sophomore infielder Rex Smith has signed to continue his baseball career at Virginia Commonwealth University. Born in Sarasota, FL and a Sarasota High School alum, Rex brings athleticism and on-base consistency to the Rams' infield unit.
Rex began his college career at State College of Florida in 2024, appearing in 7 games. After transferring to Santa Fe College for 2025, Rex found his rhythm, batting .275 over 36 games with a .438 on-base percentage and 15 RBIs.
"Rex is a highly recommended new transfer. He is an incredible teammate and a relentless worker, which has driven him to become the player he is today," Said Wiggs.
In high school, Rex was named to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune All-Area Team and was recognized as one of the Top 10 Athletes in Sarasota County in 2023.
He now joins a VCU program that competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference and has built a strong reputation for player development and postseason competitiveness. Rex is expected to be a valued asset as the Rams continue their pursuit of conference success and NCAA tournament appearances.
