Santa Fe (0-1) fell to Gulf Coast State College (1-0) 11-5 at Harry Tholen Field in the first game of 2026.
A warm, sunny day blessed the majority of the Citrus Conference for their opening day for baseball to kickoff the 2026 season. The Saints scored first in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead over the Commodores. A deep blast by Bray Touchstone evened the day for GCSC and left the game knotted at 1-1 after three innings.
A 7-run top of the fourth chased Santa Fe starter Matt Pagan who ended his day going 3.1 innings with 3 hits and 4 K's. He recieved the loss as well. Stephen Joyce went 2.2 innings with 4 hits, 5 ER and 4 K's. Kaden Howell finished the game for the Saints with 3.0 innings of work.
Santa Fe strung some hits together in both the 5th and 8th innings but was too little too late for the Saints as they drop their first game of 2026.
The Saints and Commodores face off on Saturday, January 24th at 12:00 and 2:00pm in two 7 innings games.
