Pagan signs to VCU
Matthew Pagan will continue his career at Virginia Commonwealth University
Gainesville, FL
Matthew Pagan has committed to Virginia Commonwealth University to continue his athletic and academic journey. Pagan is a sophomore LHP from Boca Raton, FL and is a graduate of West Boca Raton High School. Pagan started 27 games as a pitcher with Santa Fe, and is studying Sports Management.
Pagan was a regular in the starting rotation in both of his years with the Saints. Pagan struck out 105 batters in two years, notching a career-best 9 strikeouts in one game in a February 2025 game against South Florida State College. On top of his career high in K's, Pagan pitched 5 innings, allowing just two hits and no runs.
In the classroom, Pagan stood out just as much as he did on the field. He was recognized in 2024-25 by the NJCAA and FCSAA with All-Academic and Academic All-State honors, respectively. In every semester since joining Santa Fe in Fall 2024, Pagan earned All-Saints Academic Team Honors.
Pagan will be joining a strong VCU roster, bolstering a Rams' team that recently competed in the NCAA Regional Tournament. The program underwent a sharp turnaround under the lead of young head coach Sean Thompson, who helped a 2025 record of 17-37 improve into a 38 win team this past season. The Rams will certainly benefit from Pagan on the mound as they look to capture their second consecutive A-10 tournament, and their fifth in seven years in 2027.
