Men's Basketball Hands Out Postseason Team Awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Santa Fe Saints men's basketball team and Head Coach Chris Mowry recently handed out team awards to players that have shown outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom for the 2020-2021 season.
Team MVP/Rebounding Leader
Yaw Obeng-Mensah - The forward will be attending the Division I University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in the fall to continue his academic and athletic career. He had the most rebounds for the Saints, snagging a total of 194. Obeng-Mensah averaged 12.6 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game. Number 15 compiled eight double-doubles on the season and had a season-high 30 points in a February 13th matchup against Daytona State. His rebounding average ranked 2nd in the FCSAA and 22nd in the NJCAA. He earned All-Central Conference First Team honors this season.
Best Defender
Leonardo Da Campo - Da Campo, a Bassano Del Grappo, Italy native, played and started in 19 games this season for the Saints. The 6'8" freshman averaged 6.6 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in rebounds. He recorded 23 steals and ten blocks to earn the team recognition as "Best Defender." Additionally, Da Campo led SF in field-goal percentage (45.4) and shot 35 percent from beyond the arc.
Assists Leader
Jay Medor - The point guard compiled 75 assists to lead SF. The 5'11" sophomore averaged 14.8 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, and 1.9 steals per game. He led the team in both assists per game and steals per game, with his steals average ranking 9th in the FCSAA as well. Medor earned All-Central Conference Second Team honors. The outstanding ballhandler scored in double digits in 19 of 20 games this season, and his three-point percentage (42.4) ranked 11th in the FCSAA.
Team Scholar-Athletes
There were four players on the men's team this year that earned Scholar Athlete honors, indicating that they earned over a 3.60 GPA. The four honorees include the following:

Josh Petteno (Venice, Italy) - Physics
Aleksa Medic (Pancevo, Serbia) - General Studies
