Gainesville, FL
Sophomore Karmello Branch has decided to continue his college basketball career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Branch attended Wharton High School, where he reached 1,000 career points.
During his freshman year, Branch played in 25 games and averaged 10.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.64 assists per game. In his sophomore season, he stepped up as a leader for the Saints, playing in 30 games while putting up impressive numbers: 21.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game; shooting 44% from the field. Branch played a key role in the Saints offense, contributing to nearly half of the team's field goals with 211 out of 480 attempts. Branch ended his sophomore campaign as a very decorated player, earning First-Team All-Citrus Conference as well as All-FCSAA honors.
"Karmello had an outstanding season for us this year. Despite being the focus of every opponent, he was able to produce at a high level and lead our team all season long," says Head Coach John Ritzdorf. "Many of his best performances were in our toughest games and when we needed it the most. We are happy for Karmello and all that he has accomplished, and we look forward to following his career at UMKC."
Now, Branch will take his talents to UMKC, which competes in the NCAA Summit League. Head coach Marvin Menzies, who joined the team in 2022, helped lead the Roos to a 13-20 record last season, finishing 8th in the conference.
