GAME FINAL: Santa Fe Saints 90, Indian River 87
Indian River won the tip and #32 Tamiel Green scored an easy 2 point bucket to put IRSC on the board first. Joel Harrison followed with a layup of his own for the Saints.
At the first media timeout, the score was 11 - 13 in favor of IRSC. A quick 5 second violation followed from our Saints leading a quick score by the opponents but Cornelius White drained the first 3 pointer of the game to tie the Saints 17-17 by the second media timeout.
After the timeout, despite great defensive pressure and hustle by the Saints, specifically Sophomore leader #13 Moses Horne, the great shot making ability by Indian River's #33 Adam Squire led to a 16-6 run making the score 33-23 opponents leading.
After the media timeout the offensive assault has not gone down but Saints #23 Cornelius White is fighting back knocking down 2 threes back to back with a steal leading to another 3 by Palmer Walton. Tre Dubois also hit a 3 pointer before the next media timeout giving the Saints a 12-0 run within the last minute.
Coming back from the timeout, Freshman Guard Tre Dubois banged another 3 pointer continuing the momentum of the Saints clawing away at Indian River's lead. The score is now 45-50 IRSC still Leading.
The combined efforts coming out of the media break by Alex Pierre-Lewis with a 3 pointer and a free throw by Joel Harrison. The Saints ended the half shooting 7/7 from the 3 point line bringing the score to a close game at the half. Our Santa Fe Saints 49, Indian River 50. Leading our Saints is #10 Tre Dubois and #23 Cornelius White both with 11 at the half. Leading the game is Indian River at the half, #4 Caleb Cameron and #33 Adam Squire both have 14 points and #32 Tamiel Green with 13.
Coming out of the half, the Saints start with the ball but Jermichael Johnson From IRSC scores a layup first making the score 52-49. Santa Fe's Joel Harrison hits 3 back to back 3 pointers to regain the lead in addition to a free throw made by #11 Harvey Wilson to make the score 59-55 Saints Lead. Another three made by opponent Adam Squire takes IRSC to 61 points on the game but Harvey Wilson drains a walk down 3 right after to answer the score. Then #14 Palmer Walton hits an and one, setting the score to 66-61. Joel Harrison has started the second half hot shooting 4 for 4 from the 3 point line. With 11:42 left in the game at the media timeout, the Saints pushed their comeback lead to 71-66.
The last 11 minutes came down to hustle ball and a battle of who wants to win the most. It was riddled with toughness, intensity, and emotion. In the end, a foul by Alex Pierre-Louis puts Adam Squire on the free throw line down 2 with 5.4 seconds left in the game. Squire misses the first shot and makes the second, the score is now 88-87 Santa Fe. With 4.3 seconds left on the clock, Moses Horne is fouled and makes 2 free throws advancing the lead to 90-87 Santa Fe.
Saints gets the win and improve to 15-5 on the season. Joel Harrison led the Saints with 20 points; Tre Dubois added 15, Cornelius White added 13 while Alex Pierre-Louis and Palmer Walton each scored 10.
The Saints will return at home against Polk State on Wednesday, February 4th at 6pm EST. They travel to St. Petersburg on Saturday, January 31st at 4:00pm
