GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the second time this season, Santa Fe Softball swept the St. Petersburg Titans.
The doubleheader was complete in almost record time, as the Saints' had two great pitching performances from Sophie Abrams and Darian Ingram to improve to 14-8 overall.
GAME 1 - SF 4, SPC 2
The Titans opened the game's scoring, but SF quickly tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout from Story Giebeig.
St. Petersburg went in front 2-1 in the top of the third, only to see the Saints take their first lead of the game in the ensuing AB's.
Rile Schnyder had an RBI double, then touched home to score the go-ahead run on an error by the Titan's infield.
SF added an insurance run to bring the score to 4-2 in the sixth, when Morgan Lebeda crushed her third home run of the season.
The Titans were able to bring baserunners to second and third base with one out in the top of the seventh, but Abrams shut the door with two swinging K's.
Key Statistics
Abrams improved to 5-3 with the complete game. She allowed just three hits, and one of the runs was unearned. No. 13 counteracted five walks by striking out six, none more important than the final two.
From the batter's box, the Saints had five hits. Schnyder had two of them, including the double. Giebeig had an RBI, as did Lebeda with the solo shot.
GAME 2 - SF 3, SPC 1
The Saints jumped in front 3-0 in the opening inning, when Giebeig smacked her eighth home run of the season to score Jayelyn Carter and Schnyder.
The game quickly became a blur, as each team's pitching and defense got quick outs.
Starting pitcher Darian Ingram was in complete control for the Saints, and her only blemish was a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning.
Key Statistics
Ingram's fourth win of the season was also her fourth complete game. Her season ERA of only 1.14 got even better, as she matched a season-high with ten strikeouts, Two of them came in the final inning. She allowed just four hits, the one earned run, and no walks.
It was a quiet game with the bats, as the Saints once again finished with five hits. Giebeig's three-run homer was all the Saints would need. With eight home runs so far in 2022, the cleanup hitter ranks No. 2 in the NJCAA for the category.
