BRADENTON, Fla. – Santa Fe Softball played the State College of Florida for the final time in nonconference play, and the Saints and Manatees split the day's doubleheader in two one-run games.
SF took the season series with SCF, 3-1.
GAME 1 - SCF 4, SF 3
The Manatees led 3-0 after the game's first three frames, but the Saints tied it up at 3-3 with two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
The Saints opened their scoring with an RBI triple from Jayelyn Carter, who then scored on a passed ball.
In the sixth, Brooke Hackim drove in a run with a groundout, scoring Keeli Zingaro who had doubled to lead off the inning.
SCF walked it off, however in the seventh inning, pushing the fourth run across with a bases loaded walk.
Key Statistics
Zingaro and Carter each had two hits, with Carter having a triple and Zingaro a double.
Starter Sophie Abrams allowed just two hits in 6.1 innings with three runs allowed (one earned), eight walks, and two strikeouts. Kaylie Araujo also entered in the seventh, but was unable to record an out.
The Saints were hurt by five errors in the contest.
GAME 2 - SF 6, SCF 5
The Saints salvaged the split, producing runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to get past SCF.
SF went ahead 2-0 in the third, rallying with two outs. Riley Schnyder singled, then scored on a triple from Zingaro. Story Giebeig then plated Zingaro with a single.
The Manatees took a briefly held lead at 3-2, before SF tacked on three runs in the fourth to lead 5-3. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Abbigail Heywood and Schnyder.
SF extended the lead to 6-3 in the fifth with an RBI single from Hackim, and Darian Ingram and the defense was able to do the rest to keep SCF from tying or going ahead in the final innings.
Key Statistics
Ingram's complete game win improved her record to 6-3. Just two of the SCF runs were earned, and she walked two while striking out eight.
Schnyder and Zingaro had multi-hit efforts, with Zingaro's triple the lone extra base hit. Five different players accounted for RBI.
