The Saints fall in game one of the doubleheader at Indian River State College 7-2. The Saints currently sit in sixth place in the Citrus Conference with the top six teams moving on to postseason play. The Saints fell behind early as Indian River scored two runs in both the first and second innings. IRSC held the 4-0 lead until the fifth inning when they added two more runs to make it 6-0. The Saints were able to get one run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit but allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth to push the Indian River lead back to six. Santa Fe was able to get a run in the top of the seventh as SF fell in game one.
Karris Rhine finished the game with two hits, the only SF player with a multi-hit game. Camryn VanGalder drove in the only run of the game. Ryleigh Bauer got the start on the mound for SF going just 1.1 innings. Bauer allowed four hits and four runs (three earned runs) while walking three. Belle Mancillas finished the game allowing five hits and three runs (two earned runs). Mancillas struck out three and walked one.
The Saints were able to out-hit Indian River in game two of the doubleheader, however, IRSC knocked off Santa Fe 5-3. Indian River had a 4-0 lead before the Saints scored their first run in the top of the fifth inning. The Saints scored two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2. A run for Santa Fe in the sixth cut the deficit to 4-3. IRSC scored one run in the home half of the sixth to add just enough insurance to push past SF 5-3.
The Saints did not have a single hitter with more than one hit in the game. Rylie Blankenship was 1-3 on the afternoon driving in two of the Saitns three runs scored. Brooke Markiewicz also 1-3 drove in the third run of the afternoon for SF. Ryleigh Bennett received the start and loss for SF. Bennett went 4.0 innings allowing two hits and four unearned runs. Bennett struck out five and walked three. Alexis Daphney pitched the final 2.0 innings allowing one run and two hits. Daphney struck out two.
The Saints are back in action on Monday afternoon when Daytona State College comes to town for an all-important series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
