Santa Fe (11-1) hosted the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Manatees (10-10) on Tuesday, February 17th, winning Game 1 5-4 and Game 2 11-3 in five innings.
Game 1
A solo home run by Mckenzie Cox in the bottom of the third put the Saints up 2-1, and a sacrifice fly by Ellie Frierson extended the lead to 3-1.
The Manatees took the lead 4-3 with a three-RBI home run by A'Lana Martinez in the top of the fifth. Cox scored from an RBI ground out by Miranda Murch in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game 4-4.
Molly Bender doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, and the Saints secured a 5-4 walk-off win as she scored from an error after a Murch ground ball.
Belle Mancillas started and pitched all seven innings for the Saints, allowing six hits, four walks, and four runs while recording five strikeouts.
Molly Bender led the Saints with two hits and tied Mckenzie Cox with two runs.
Game 2
The Manatees struck first in the second game, going up 2-0 in the top of the first from a solo home run and a fielder's choice. However, the Saints responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Mckenzie Cox hit a leadoff double followed by back-to-back hit by pitches to Molly Bender and Miranda Murch. Bases-loaded walks by Sydney English, McKenna O'Sullivan, Haylee McCrea, and Tegan Grizzard gave the Saints a 4-2 lead. McCrea scored off an error to extend the lead to 5-2.
Cox hit a three-RBI home run in the third to extend the lead to 8-2. The Saints further extended their lead to 10-2 in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Camryn VanGalder and an RBI single by Ellie Frierson.
The Manatees scored off a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, but Molly Bender ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a home run on her second pitch to give the Saints an 11-3 win.
Morgyn Stevens earned the win for the Saints, allowing two hits, two walks, and one run with one strikeout over four innings.
Mckenzie Cox led the Saints with two hits and three RBIs. Nine Saints scored, with Cox and Molly Bender both scoring two runs.
Santa Fe will travel to Sanford, Florida on Friday, February 18th to face Enterprise State Community College at 2:30pm and Pensacola State College at 4:30pm.
