#7 Santa Fe College (20-3, 5-2) hosted the College of Central Florida Patriots (10-14, 2-8) on Tuesday, March 10th. The Saints won the first game 7-0 and won the second game 6-2.
Game 1
Sydney English drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the second inning, followed by a single by Kadence Compton, walk by Haylee McCrea, and bases-loaded walk by Camryn VanGalder to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Molly Bender hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the third, advanced to third on a passed ball, and ultimately scored from a sacrifice fly by Miranda Murch. Compton and McCrea both walked, and VanGalder brought them both home with a triple. VanGalder was able to advance home herself with a single by Rylie Blankenship to cap off a four-run third inning and put the Saints up 5-0.
The Saints scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Bender hit a leadoff single, stole second base, and scored from a single by English. Compton doubled to score English and put the Saints up 7-0.
Belle Mancillas started on the mound and recorded 13 strikeouts over seven innings, while only allowing one hit and one walk.
Bender and Compton co-led the team with two hits, and McCrea led the team with two walks.
Game 2
The Saints scored two runs each in the first, third, and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead.
Molly Bender and Miranda Murch hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Hannah Hargrave hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the third, and Murch homered again to score them both.
Camryn VanGalder reached on an error in the bottom of the fourth, and Alivia Vance doubled to advance VanGalder to third base. A single by Hargrave brought home both of Vangalder and Vance to give the Saints their 6-0 lead.
The Patriots scored their first run of the day in the top of the fifth inning. Madison McCabe drew a walk and was able to advance to third on a single by Samantha Albert, and scored after tagging up on a fly out.
A hit batter would allow the Patriots to score another run in the top of the sixth, but the Saints held on to win 6-2.
Chloe Woods started on the mound and recorded three strikeouts over five innings, while allowing two hits, one walk, and one run. Skyler Alvarez pitched two innings in relief, recording three strikeouts and allowing one hit, one walk, and one run.
Rylie Blankenship, Hargrave, and Murch all recorded two hits, and English drew the Saints' lone walk of the game. Blankenship also stole a base.
Santa Fe will travel to #16 Miami Dade College (16-5, 8-2) on Thursday, March 12th for a doubleheader starting at 2:00pm. Miami Dade swept #6 Indian River State College (19-6, 3-4) on Tuesday, March 10th, winning the first game 5-1 and winning the second game 3-2.
