A Former Saint In Focus: Jazmyne Green
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe Athletics recently caught up with former women's basketball player Jazmyne Green, who played for Head Coach Chanda Stebbins from 2009-2011.
Green, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., went on from Santa Fe to continue her basketball career while obtaining an undergraduate degree from Illinois State and a Master of Science Degree in Business Leadership from Palm Beach Atlantic (PBA).
Following her time at PBA, Green has always strived to stay connected to the sport she loves. After pursuing a professional career and coming close to securing a professional contract overseas, she continues to help coach and train young basketball players as they work to hone their skills.
Today, Green is a corporate accountant and the CEO and founder of I AM Visual Tech, an "app development company designed to make coaches and athletes daily activities easier" with created platforms that "allow the customers to elevate their daily practices with simple and creative solutions on the go."
"As a former player, observing the coaching staff and being a former graduate assistant, I was able to see the need for the first app that my company has created, Manage My Recruits," expressed Green.
Green hopes the app can provide significant assistance to coaching staffs throughout the recruiting process to develop player profiles, manage notes, keep track of expenses, and communicate with other institutional personnel via receipts and other viewable content. Green is not only passionate about aiding in the coaching experience with the app, but the student-athletes as well. When asked about advice to current student-athletes, Green emphasized the importance of flexibility and work-ethic, attributes that have proven to be valuable in her own journey.
"My advice would be to enjoy every minute of it, and to be open to new opportunities, whatever that may look like," intimated Green. "If you were to tell me five years ago that I would be a CEO of a company and that I would be developing apps, I would say get out of here, no way, not me. That just has to do with me evolving as a women and as a person and figuring out what I want for myself."
Green learned and grew significantly while at Santa Fe, most notably perhaps in the area of financial responsibility. According to Green, much of what she experienced from her time at Santa Fe and playing for Coach Stebbins is making an impact in her day-to-day life.
"Coming out of high school, my dream was always (to play) DI, DI, DI. Before even getting into Santa Fe, I was a little disappointed in myself because I had went on a visit to VCU and had verbally committed. They ended up backing out, and Coach Stebbins then came along. She was kind of my saving grace and I didn't even know it. Looking back at it now, I am so grateful for Santa Fe and Coach Stebbins because they really were the foundation of my college career and figuring out what it is I want and what it is I don't want. I'm so grateful for the school and for Coach Stebbins, and one of my best friends to this day, Leandra King, was a teammate at SF."
There is a lot to look forward to for Green in her future endeavors, and her enthusiasm is evident.
"My vision for the company is to be a company that is inclusive and inviting, which provides a service that is beneficial to all people. Right now I am staying in my niche of athletics, but if the company expands to something more than that, great. Right now I am actually just enjoying the ride and excited for what it is going to be. I have a tremendous amount of faith that it will exceed any expectations that I may have, and we hope to keep putting apps out there with user-friendliness in mind."
