Indian River Tops Volleyball, 3-0
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Santa Fe College Volleyball traveled south to play Indian River State College on Saturday afternoon, and the Pioneers prevailed by a 3-0 margin, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20.
Set 1 – IRSC 25, SF 19
The Saints scored seven of the match's first ten points, but the Pioneers were able to quickly work their way back even.
The score was tied at 10-10 when the hosts began a 5-0 run to gain separation, and SF was never able to get any closer than three points away from the Pioneers the rest of the way.
Set 2 – IRSC 25, SF 16
The Saints started slowly in the second set and fell behind 9-4 before taking a timeout.
Later, SF trailed 16-13, and appeared to have found some things that were effective against IRSC.
The Pioneers, however, jumped in front 2-0 on the strength of a 9-3 run to conclude the second set.
Set 3 – IRSC 25, SF 20
The Saints' block came alive at the start of the third, and the two sides went back-and-forth.
Three unanswered points put IRSC in front 12-9, and their lead eventually swelled to as large as six, 21-15.
Despite the Saints' efforts in what proved to be the concluding stretch of play, IRSC earned the final point of the sweep with a tip kill.
