St. Johns Outlasts Santa Fe
Palatka, FL.- The Saints traveled to Palatka to face St. Johns River on Tuesday at 4PM. Despite outhitting the Falcons, the Saints still fell short of beating the Vikings. The final score was 8-5. The Saints are now 11-5, 2-1 in conference play.
How It Happened
Macklin Miller started on the mound for the Saints. He pitched two innings, allowing one hit, one strikeout and two walks. The Saints went deep in their bag of pitching today. A total of seven Saints pitchers saw time on the rubber today. Five pitchers saw time on the mound for the Vikings. Danny Lazarro received the start. He also pitched two innings.
Offensively, the Saints recorded 10 hits on the day. The leading hitters for the Saints were Grant Gallagher (three hits) and AJ Barrios (two hits). Barrios also had two RBIs on the day. In the top of the third inning, the Saints started producing offense and getting on the board. Gallagher hit a line drive double to left field. Wyatt Campbell had an RBI single to score the Saints' first run of the game. Campbell scored a run on an AJ Barrios RBI single, making the score 2-2.
During the seventh inning, the score was knotted at 5-5. An RBI double from Andres Natera put the Vikings up 6-5.
A two-run homer from Andon Lewis moved the score to 8-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a trilogy of strikeouts in the ninth inning by the Saints, their fate was sealed. The Vikings win over the Saints with a final score of 8-5.
